THE DONDI PROJECT NATIONAL DRUMATHON

Friday, October 1st, 2010, 7-10 p.m.

Dondi, Angola is the site of the Lutamo School established by the Methodist and then United Church of Canada. Thousands of children received an education there, helping them to escape the cycle of poverty. It was also the site of a hospital established by medical missionary Dr. George Burgess, the late brother of Helen Doidge Hall of our congregation. However the school was destroyed during the civil war and has been unusable ever since.

At the request of our partners, the Evangelical Congregational Church in Angola, we are raising funds to rebuild this once vital school. This project was begun by the Men’s Ministries of the United Church of Canada, but it’s time for all of us to pitch in and support education in Angola.

On Friday, October 1st, a drumathon will begin in Dondi, Angola and continue for a total of 32 hours, with groups across Canada participating in turn. We will take our turn at PVUC from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. with drumming and song. Drummers, singers and visitors of all ages are most welcome. Forms and more information will be available soon, but for now, please set the date aside.
